- Our Story -

Elio , born 1957 in Fontechiari ,Italy, came to Edinburgh to work in an Uncle and Aunt’s Fish and Chip shop in 1973.

Silvia was born in Leith to Italian parents who ran a café and made ice cream.

Elio and Silvia married and then settled in Juniper Green in 1981.

After many years keeping the locals supplied with Fish and chips from the Pentland Fry and their home -made ice cream, Elio realised his dream to open a restaurant and bring a little bit of Italy to the area.

With the family on board, Ristorante al Borgo opened on 2nd Sept 2003 next door to the Pentland Fry in Juniper Green.

Italian chefs were brought in to keep the menu authentic whilst Silvia and the family served the food and specially selected Italian wines.

Soon, Elio was putting his hand to the kitchen and had intensive kitchen training from a long established Italian chef who had many years’ experience in hotel and restaurant kitchens.

Lorenzo still works with us today , along with the rest of the team which has now been together for around 10 wonderful years.

Claudia, Elio and Silvia’s youngest daughter, now manages the restaurant and together we aim to

bring an authentic Italian dining experience to our valued customers .
